GCSE grades are decided by the mark scheme, not the textbook. Two students who know the same maths can be a grade apart because one writes the method the way the board credits it and the other does not. That is the whole case for a GCSE tutor, and it is also the test of one: a tutor who cannot name your child's board and specification will teach the wrong paper.
Our GCSE classes are 1-on-1 on a shared whiteboard with a tutor who holds a master's degree in the subject. From the first month of Year 10 the class works from the board's own past papers: a question attempted alone, marked aloud against the published mark scheme with the method marks shown, then a similar question straight after. Every class is recorded, and the marked scripts go to the parent.
