A-level maths, from India to the UK

Online A-level maths tuition, on your board's three papers

A-level maths is the first course where a student who was strong at GCSE can fall a long way in one term. The jump is in the algebra: every topic in Year 12 pure assumes that GCSE Higher algebra is instant, and it is used in longer chains than GCSE ever asked for. The students who struggle are rarely short of ability; they are short of fluency, and no one has marked their working line by line.

Our A-level maths tutors hold a master's degree in mathematics and teach the course in the board's order. The class is 1-on-1 on a shared whiteboard: the new topic, worked problems where the tutor watches every line, then exam questions from the board's past papers. From the first term the student sits timed sections and sees them marked to the real mark scheme, because predicted grades are set from Year 12 results.

Every board sets three two-hour papers at the end of Year 13, all with a calculator. About two-thirds of the marks are pure mathematics. The content is the same across boards; the question style and the mark schemes differ, which is why we teach to one board per student.

Knowledge base

UK families ask

1Can a tutor in India teach A-level maths for a UK exam board?
Yes, when the tutor teaches the board's specification and marks to its scheme. Our A-level maths tutors hold master's degrees in mathematics and work from Edexcel, AQA and OCR past papers every week. Ask for the board and specification code in the first conversation: Edexcel 9MA0, AQA 7357, OCR H240 or MEI H640.
2My child got a 7 at GCSE and is struggling in Year 12. Is that normal?
Very common in the first term. A-level uses GCSE Higher algebra in longer chains and at speed, so a skill that was mostly reliable at GCSE fails often enough to lose every question. Four to six weeks on algebraic fluency (indices, surds, quadratics, algebraic fractions) alongside the course fixes it for most students.
3Do you teach Further Maths?
Yes: the core pure content (complex numbers, matrices, further calculus, proof by induction, polar coordinates) and the applied options the school has chosen, for Edexcel 9FM0, AQA 7367 and OCR H245.
4When do predicted grades get set?
From Year 12 end-of-year exams and the first weeks of Year 13, in time for UCAS applications in the autumn. That is why Year 12 matters as much as Year 13: a student who starts tuition in Year 13 is working on the final grade but not the prediction.
5What time are classes for UK families?
4 to 8 pm UK time on weekdays, and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Britain is 4.5 hours behind India in summer and 5.5 in winter, so UK after-school hours are Indian evenings; our tutors teach the later slots in shifts. The class time stays the same for you all year.
6How much does it cost?
About £8 to £10 an hour for a live 1-on-1 class with a master's-qualified tutor, the same one every week, with the recording of every class, notes and marked homework included. Billed monthly, no package, no contract. A UK agency charges £25 to £60 for the same hour.
7Is the first class free?
Yes. A 30-minute 1-on-1 lesson on the whiteboard on your child's current topic, at a UK after-school time. Parents sit in. After it we send a short plan and the exact rate, and you decide. No card, no obligation.
8Who are the tutors, and is it safe?
A team of 20+ women educators, each with a master's degree in her subject, teaching online from Chandigarh since 2018. Parents are welcome in every class, every class is recorded and the recording is yours, and the tutor never contacts the child outside the class.
