Coding classes for kids in Dubai, online, without the term fee or the drive

Coding classes for kids in Dubai are sold by the term, in groups, at a centre: a drive to Al Barsha, Jumeirah or Karama after school, a group of eight around one instructor's screen, and a term fee paid up front whether the child takes to it or not. The teaching inside is usually fine; the format is the problem. In a group of eight, the instructor's screen does the coding and the children follow, and a child who is stuck or bored waits either way.

Our online coding classes for kids in Dubai are one tutor with one child on a shared screen, at 4 to 7 pm Dubai time, which is an ordinary Indian evening for the tutor, or on Friday and Saturday mornings. The child types; the tutor reads every line and stops the error where it happens. Scratch from about 7, Python coding classes for kids from about 10, web development, then Java and the AP, IGCSE or CBSE Computer Science course the school uses (CBSE Class 11 and 12 Computer Science is taught in Python, which our tutors teach every week). Billed monthly in dirhams, no term fee, the recording and the code to the parent after every class.

Dubai schools run four systems and the coding course differs by school: ICT and Digital Design in the British schools, AP Computer Science in the American ones, the MYP Design course in IB schools, and Computer Science (Python) in Class 11 and 12 of the Indian schools. Under 13 the school course rarely matters; from 13 we teach the child's own.

Dubai, in practice

πŸ™ What families in Dubai ask us

  • Scratch for a 7-year-old at GEMS or an Indian school: 45 minutes twice a week, a game of their own by week 6
  • Python for a 10- to 12-year-old before the school starts it, so the child is ahead rather than behind
  • CBSE Class 11 and 12 Computer Science (Python) for the Indian schools, chapter by chapter, with the board's practical file
  • IGCSE Computer Science (0478) on the Cambridge syllabus, past papers from Year 10
  • A summer block in June and July when the centres close and the days are long

how a coding class runs

πŸ’» Sixty minutes, one child typing

  • Five minutes: last week's program, run together, bugs found aloud
  • Ten minutes: one new idea, shown on the shared screen with the tutor typing live
  • Thirty minutes: the child types, the tutor watches every line and stops the error where it happens
  • Ten minutes: the next piece of the project planned, in the child's words
  • After class: the recording, the code and a short note to the parent

For a child under 11 the class is 45 minutes. Parents are welcome in every class, and the code and the recording arrive after each one.

what the child needs

🧰 The checklist

  • A laptop or desktop with a keyboard and mouse (a tablet is fine for Scratch, not for Python)
  • Scratch 3 runs in the browser, free; Python 3 with Thonny or VS Code, free, installed together in the first class
  • A Google or Microsoft account for the shared screen
  • Forty-five minutes for a child under 11, sixty from about 11
  • Nothing paid up front: the first class is free
safety and trust

πŸ”’ Parents in the room, always

A team of 20+ women educators with master's degrees, teaching online from Chandigarh since 2018. Every class is recorded and the recording is yours; parents can sit in on any class; the tutor never contacts the child outside the class; the code lives in the child's own account. Nothing is paid up front: the first class is free and you decide afterwards.

Knowledge base

Parents ask about coding classes

1How much do coding classes for kids cost in Dubai?
Centres in Dubai sell coding by the term, in groups, and the term fee runs well into four figures in dirhams; private coding tutors list AED 100 and more an hour. Our online 1-on-1 classes are about AED 37 to 48 an hour, billed monthly with no term fee, with the recording and the code after every class. A child who stops after a month has paid for a month.
2Are online coding classes as good as a coding centre in Dubai?
For coding, better, for one reason: on a shared screen the child types and the tutor reads every line, which is the thing a group of eight at a centre cannot do. The centre's advantage is the room full of other children; for a child who wants that, a holiday camp at a centre and weekly 1-on-1 online is the combination many Dubai families settle on.
3Can you teach the Computer Science course my child's school uses?
Yes, from 13 or so: CBSE Class 11 and 12 Computer Science (Python) for the Indian schools, Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science (0478) and A-level (9618) for the British schools, AP Computer Science A and Principles for the American schools, and the IB Diploma Computer Science course. Under 13 the school course rarely matters and we follow our own ladder.
4What time are classes in Dubai?
4 to 7 pm Dubai time on school days, which is 5:30 to 8:30 pm in India, so the same tutor stays all year; and Friday and Saturday mornings. A 45-minute class for a child under 11, an hour from about 11.
5What age should a child start coding classes?
About 7 for Scratch, where the logic is in blocks and nothing has to be typed; about 10 to 11 for Python, once the child can type a sentence without hunting for keys and reads instructions on a screen comfortably. A 13-year-old who has never coded starts in Python directly. The free class finds the right starting point in twenty minutes.
6Scratch or Python first?
Under 10, Scratch: the child learns loops, conditions, variables and events by building games, and syntax errors do not exist. From 10 or 11, Python, where the same ideas are typed. A child who has done a year of Scratch moves to Python in about six weeks because the ideas are already there.
7Why 1-on-1 rather than a group coding class?
Because coding is learned by typing, not by watching. In a group class of six to ten the tutor's screen does the coding and the children follow; the child who is stuck waits, and the child who is ahead waits too. In a 1-on-1 class the child types for most of the hour and the tutor reads every line as it is written, which is the only way to catch the habit behind the bug.
8Who teaches, and how do I know they can code?
Tutors with a master's degree who teach Python, Java and web development every week, the same tutor for your child all year, on a shared screen where you can see the code. Sit in on the free class, ask the tutor to build something small live, and read the code afterwards; it will be in the recording.
9What does my child need?
A laptop or desktop with a keyboard and a mouse. Scratch runs in the browser; Python and the editor are free and installed together in the first class. A tablet works for Scratch, not for typed languages.
10How much does it cost, and is the first class free?
The same hourly rate as every subject we teach: about US$10 to $13 an hour, in your currency, billed monthly, no package, with the recording and the code after every class. The first class is a free 30-minute lesson with you in the room; after it we send a short plan and the exact rate, and you decide.
