Online English tuition from India for American students

Parents ask one question before any other about English tutoring from India: will my child understand the tutor, and will the tutor teach American English? It is the right question, and the answer is the free trial class. Our English tutors hold degrees in English, teach in clear, neutral English, and teach to the American standards: Common Core English Language Arts, the state reading and writing tests, and the essay types American schools set.

What a 1-on-1 English class does that a classroom cannot is mark writing line by line. Every class ends with a short written task; the next class starts with it marked, with the two or three things to fix named. Reading is taught as a method (what the question is asking, where the answer is in the text, how to quote it), not as more reading.

Knowledge base

US families ask

1Is English tutoring from India suitable for American students?
It is when the tutor teaches American standards in clear English, and the way to know is the free trial class: sit in, listen, and see how your child responds. Our English tutors hold degrees in English and teach Common Core English Language Arts, the state reading and writing tests and American essay types to US students every week.
2Will the tutor's accent be a problem?
Listen in the trial class and decide; it is free for that reason. Our English tutors speak clear, neutral English, and the larger part of the work is written: reading questions, grammar, and writing that is marked line by line, where accent does not enter.
3What does an English class include?
A reading passage at the child's level with questions, one grammar or writing skill taught and practised, and a short written task to finish. The task is marked before the next class, which starts with the corrections. Parents get the recording and a short note.
4Do you also teach English to children whose first language is not English?
Yes. Many of our students speak Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil or another language at home. The gap is nearly always in written English: vocabulary range and sentence structure. Weekly marked writing closes it faster than conversation practice.
5What time are classes for US families?
The most popular slot is 7 to 8:30 am US Eastern before school, which is early evening in India. US after-school (4 to 8 pm Eastern) is the early hours in India, and our tutors teach those hours in shifts, so evening slots exist on every weekday. Saturday and Sunday mornings US time are Indian evenings. Central, Mountain and Pacific families get the same three windows, shifted.
6How much does it cost?
US$10 to $13 an hour for a live 1-on-1 class with a master's-qualified tutor, the same one every week, with the recording of every class, notes and marked homework included. Billed monthly, no package, no contract. The full table, in US and Canadian dollars, is on the pricing page.
7Is the first class free?
Yes. A 30-minute 1-on-1 lesson on the whiteboard on your child's current topic, at a time in your time zone. Parents sit in. After it we send a short plan and the exact rate, and you decide. No card, no obligation.
8Who are the tutors, and is it safe?
A team of 20+ women educators, each with a master's degree in her subject, teaching online from Chandigarh since 2018. Parents are welcome in every class, every class is recorded and the recording is yours, and the tutor never contacts the child outside the class.
