International school fees in Rome are set by a handful of established schools that have served the embassies and the UN agencies for decades, and a second tier of smaller British schools that many families never hear about. This post puts every published fee for 2026-27 in one table, lists the one-off fees and the sibling discounts, explains the education grant that many Rome families are budgeting on without checking, and gives an Indian family's reading of what each price buys. Fees are the published 2026-27 schedules, or the latest published where the school has not yet released them, rounded, as of September 2026; check the school's own page before you sign.

Southlands British International School in Casal Palocco, Acorn International School, Brighton College Rome, Little Genius, Royal International School and several others do not publish their fees online; ask, and expect the British-curriculum ones to sit between the two tables.
What sits outside the tuition line
- Admission or enrolment fees, once, typically €2,000 to €5,000 at the established schools; St George's first-year total for a 3-year-old is about €4,900 above the tuition.
- Registration, in some cases annually.
- Bus, €2,500 to €4,000 a year, and almost every Rome school needs it, because the Cassia and La Storta campuses are north of the city and Ambrit and the Castelli are south.
- Lunch, uniform, trips, devices, and exam fees for IGCSE and the IB Diploma.
- Sibling discounts, which can be the largest single saving for a family of three: ask, and ask whether the admission fee is waived for siblings.
The education grant
Many Rome families arrive with a UN agency, FAO, IFAD or WFP, and the education grant for staff on international contracts covers a large share of school fees up to a ceiling, which is why the Cassia schools are full of agency children. The grant does not apply to locally recruited staff or to most consultants, and the ceiling has not kept pace with the senior-year fees. Check the contract type and the current ceiling before choosing a school on the assumption that the grant will carry it, and ask the school's admissions office, which handles the grant paperwork every year.
What each price buys, for an Indian family
The established schools buy English-medium teaching, a diploma at 18 that travels, small classes and, in Rome particularly, a community of families who move every three years and know how to help a newcomer. The choice between them is mostly programme and geography: IB continuum at Ambrit (to 14) and Rome International School, British at St George's and Southlands, American at Marymount and AOSR, with the campus location deciding the neighbourhood: the Cassia and La Storta in the north, Monteverde and the Castelli in the south. The smaller British schools buy English-medium teaching at half the price, with smaller facilities and, at some, an Italian-heavy intake that gives an Indian child Italian friends and Italian faster.
