International school fees in Milan are the first real number of an Indian family's posting, and they arrive in pieces: a tuition figure on one page, an admission fee on another, a building fund in the small print, and a second price if the company is paying. This post puts every fee for 2026-27 in one table, the established international schools and the bilingual and smaller ones, then lists what sits outside the tuition line, explains the private and corporate rates, and gives an Indian family's reading of what each price buys. Fees are the published 2026-27 schedules, or the latest published where the school has not yet released them, rounded, as of September 2026; check the school's own page before you sign.

What sits outside the tuition line

  • Admission fee, once, €800 to €3,600, higher for older children, not refunded.
  • Registration or enrolment fee, every year, €600 to €1,350.
  • Building or development fund at the American School, €2,500 a year for the first four years.
  • Lunch, €1,400 to €1,700 a year where it is charged separately.
  • Bus, roughly €2,500 to €4,000 a year for the schools outside the city, which is most of the IB ones.
  • Deposits, returned when the child leaves, at some schools.
  • Exam fees for IGCSE and the IB Diploma in the senior years, and trips, uniform and devices.

A family with two children at one of the established schools in the middle years is paying €40,000 to €50,000 a year after the extras; at the senior end, more.

The private rate and the corporate rate

Several Milan schools publish two prices. The private rate is for families who pay themselves. The corporate rate applies when an employer pays and the school invoices the company, and it can be a third higher. ICS Milan's published tuition is about €12,240 at the private rate and about €19,860 at the corporate rate; the British School of Milan's Year 8 is about €14,700 private against about €23,200 corporate. If the employer pays, that is the number to negotiate on; if the family pays part, ask the school which rate applies to the family's share.

What each price buys, for an Indian family

The established IB and British schools buy English-medium teaching, small classes, facilities, a diploma at 18 that Indian and international universities accept without question, and, for the posting family, continuity when the next posting comes. What they do not buy is the maths standard an Indian family expects: the IB order is different, the drill is lighter, and the child who gets every test right can sit on an MYP 5 because criteria B, C and D are unfamiliar; why is in IB MYP maths criteria explained. At the British School the CBSE child finds the Year 5 maths easy and the writing hard.

The bilingual schools buy the Italian curriculum with real English, at half the price, for a family that may stay and wants the Italian door open. The state school buys the Italian curriculum for nothing, with the child's Italian native in two years. The comparison of all three, on cost, language and the return-to-India question, is in international school vs Italian school, and the city itself, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, is in Milan for Indian families.

What we do

We teach the children at all of these schools: MYP and PYP maths and science at the IB schools in the school's own order, the Cambridge and IGCSE syllabus at the British School, and the Italian syllabus a term ahead, in English, Hindi or Punjabi, for the children in bilingual and state schools. Bring the school's fee letter and the last report to the free demo and we will tell you what the maths will need from you at that school, at whichever price you are paying.

Questions parents ask

1How much does an international school cost in Milan?
The established international schools charge about €13,000 to €15,000 a year in the early years and €22,000 to €28,000 in the senior years for 2026-27, plus one-off admission fees of €800 to €3,600, annual registration of €600 to €1,350, and lunch and bus. The bilingual and smaller schools charge €6,000 to €15,000.
2Which is the cheapest international school in Milan?
Among the English-medium schools, Rootes School at about €7,500 to €8,650, BDC School from about €6,500, the Lycée Stendhal (French) from about €5,800, and the Deutsche Schule at about €7,600. Among the IB and British schools the lowest early-years fees are at the International School of Monza and La Scuola, from about €10,200 to €10,700.
3What is the difference between the private rate and the corporate rate?
Several Milan schools publish two prices: a lower private rate for families paying themselves and a higher corporate rate when the employer pays and invoices the company. ICS Milan and the British School of Milan both do this. If your employer pays, budget for the corporate rate.
4Are the fees tax deductible in Italy?
School fees for paritarie and private schools are partly deductible on the Italian tax return up to a capped amount per child, which is small against international fees. Most families rely on the employer's education allowance rather than the deduction. Ask HR before you sign.
